The use of det and der PD2

Topic Progress:

The table below, describes the different contexts in which  det  and der are used.

Det (it) Der (there)
Used in questions and answers, like for example: Hvad er det (what is it)? Det er en hun

( it is a dog).

It serves as a temporary subject to an indefinite subject, only when used together with verbs that do not have  an object. Like for example: Der er en togstation i Albertslund (there is a train station in Albertslund).

In the passive form of a verb der can also be used  For example: Der repareres bilen hver måned (The car is repaired every month).

Used when one says what something is,like for example: det er Glostrup Station (It is Glostrup Station) Can be used in a sentence with an indefinite subject. For example. Der er mange børn, der kan lide Lego legetøj (There are many children who like Lego toys )
Can refer to a sentence mentioned earlier  like for example: hvornår rejser han ? Det ved jeg ikke. When hvad (what) is used as a subject in a sentence, der comes after the verb between der and the subject hvad .  For example Hvad skete der med dit ben ? (What happened to your leg ?)
Can also refer to the infinitive of a verb in a sentence. For example: Kan du lide at spille fodbold ( Do you like to play football)? Ja, det er sjovt, synes jeg.(Yes I think it is fun) When hvad (what) and hvem (who) are subjects in a clause we say  hvad der or hvem der. For example. Jeg ved ikke hvad der skete ( I do not know , what happened or Jeg ved ikke, hvem der tog det (I do not know who stole it ).
Can serve as a temporary subject to a clause. Like for example; Det er ikke sjovt, at hans hund tisser foran mit hus (It is not fun that his dog urinates in front of my house.) One can use Der er + and adjective when describing a place. For example. Der er dejligt i København (It is lovely in Copenhagen )
It can serve as a temporary subject to the infinitive form of a verb. Like for example; Det er sjovt at spille fodbold.
It is also used when there is no real subject . Like for example; det larmer udenfor(it is noisy outside) or when one talks about the weather; det sner (it snows),det regner (it rains).
